Programs

Drop-in Counselling
Weekly we are joined by a counsellor from Creative Works who is available Thursdays from 10am to 4pm for drop-in or phone-in support. Unlike other mental wellness options, you do not need a plan of action to be able to access this resource. Our counsellor is happy to talk about anything that comes to mind and do not require any advance appointment scheduling.
Community Education
FASSY provides workshops tailored to your organization’s needs on topics related to FASD. We often can provide this to communities, in partnership with Council of Yukon First Nations, at their request. Email info@fassy.org to arrange an upcoming training event in your community.
Yukon College Courses
We work with the Northern Institute of Social Justice to deliver FASD Informed Support throughout the year. This course is a 1-day learning opportunity that provides the basics and history of FASD. FASSY and NSIJ are currently working to create a more intensive, 5-day course geared at service providers. If you have any suggestions for this course development please email Britta Andreas at Britta.Andreas@fassy.org (this would be so helpful to have from now until about July 2025 when that course will be developed.
The Outreach Van
As a key partner in the Outreach Van program, FASSY helps support vulnerable populations in Whitehorse by providing services and expertise in FASD care.
Learning Opportunities
Our staff have a great deal of information about FASD and are available to answer questions from our community members. We recommend anyone starting their learning journey to view CanFASD's online courses. These can be accessed at CanFASD.ca. For Yukon-based opportunities, we collaborate with the FASD Interagency Advisory Committee to bring local education initiatives to the community.
LWEH Program
The Landlords Working to End Homelessness (LWEH) program supports our clients by creating strong partnerships between landlords and tenants. With the support of our LWEH Coordinator we are able to rent units in the private market an then sub-let these to our tenants. Thanks to the support of the Government of Canada and their Reaching Home initiative we can ensure landlords who are working with us receive rent on the first of the month, any tenant caused damages are repaired by us, and we provide guidance and assistance to the tenants to foster secure and sustainable housing. If you are a landlord interested in participating in this program click to connect with our LWEH Coordinator today! (if that is a possible link we can make)
Outreach Services
Our Outreach Workers are available for adults living with FASD or who suspect they have FASD to help co-create a plan of action to improve your current situation. The Outreach staff are able to help navigate vital services, focusing on housing, finances, health, and community inclusion. We work in collaboration with various community partners to help advocate for you and to ensure any accommodations required are being offered. Outreach Workers can help with any goal setting and care-planning you are in need of once you are ready to take steps towards change.
FASD Awareness Initiative
While FASD Awareness Day takes place annually on September 9th, there is an on-going need to arm our community with tools and valuable information on the risks of drinking and unprotected sex. By providing people with reproductive tools, including pregnancy tests and condoms, we hope to empower them to make informed choices about reproductive health. By choosing to avoid alcohol during pregnancy, whenever possible, we can help prevent FASD. We thank our community partners for their ongoing support of pregnancy dispensers across various locations in the Yukon. Donate now to support year-round FASD prevention efforts and help us continue this essential work.
Out and About Program
In partnership with OFI, TOZ, and Inclusion Yukon, this program focuses on mental wellness activities for individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities. Activities and evening/weekend programming are based on client feedback and change each month. Our focus is on inclusion, engagement, and ensuring everyone on the spectrum has some opportunity to join in our wide variety of events. To explore our monthly activities, visit our Calendar of Events page.
Drop-In Space
Our office at 205 Black Street is a safe space for people living with FASD or who suspect they might have FASD to gather and socialize. In this space you can use our computers, grab a beverage, spend time with the drop-in staff, or connect with our Resident Elders. For anyone who not yet sure about what FASSY is all about this is a great place to start!
